Feeling down during the Holidays? Here's your Christmas Checklist:
Get into the Holiday Spirit
Avoid the pit of loneliness
Search for the meaning in the festivities
Regain Energy and Focus
Overcome disillusionment with the holidays
FINDING HOPE IN
THE HOLIDAY BLUES
The holiday season is a time for connecting with the
deepest values of our souls. We connect intuitively and
intentionally. This soul searching and awareness can awaken
memories connected with the deep values. Some of the
memories may be good. Some of the memories may not be good.
Some we try to block out. Somehow this time of season can
release these memories good and sad into our thought
stream. And to our surprise we may find ourselves a little
blue on Christmas.
Elvis reminds us that without someone special our Christmas
will be blue. A popular term for this experience is
“Holiday Blues.” In this time of year and season of festive
celebration you may be at risk for feeling grieved, lonely,
depressed, or blue. If you have experienced a loss
connected with the holidays or not—it may be more
noticeable this time of year. If you struggle with
loneliness, you may feel more isolated this time of year.
If you are managing depression, your symptoms may be more
acute this time of year.
The popular notion of holiday blues reminds us that though
we may feel alone we are not alone—but in good company. At
this time of year the blues can impact the married as well
as the widowed, the single as well as the partnered, the
old as well as the young. And for this reason this web page
is dedicated to providing some resources that will help to
intervene and prevent the holiday blues.
It is good to know that our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ
experienced loneliness, injustice, disappointment, and
loss. It is good because He willingly encountered trials in
order to learn what it is like to be human (Hebrews 5:8).
It is also good because He modeled what he valued most
deeply and that is seeking fellowship in the community of
his spiritual brothers and sisters. We can embrace Him and
follow His example. This will help develop and build our
faith to have a blessed endurance in this season.
